This one-day course is designed to provide an introduction to the methods employed by offenders to target, groom and abuse children using the Internet. It provides an insight into the technical terminology used in relation to computers and the Internet and an exploration of the current debate on whether Internet sex offenders are different to other kinds of sex offenders. An introduction to some practical assessment techniques is included.

Learning outcomes - by the end of the day you will:-

  • Have a good understanding of pathway planning.
  • Have a good understanding of the role of the Personal Adviser.
  • Understand the Statutory framework - (Children's (leaving care) Act 2000)
  • Recognise the importance of involving the young person, and others who can contribute to the plan.
  • Have developed strategies for collecting and collating information.
  • Considered the factors when completing the plan - e.g. health, finance, education, relationships/support, etc.
  • Be aware of the need to keep accurate records and confidentiality / sharing information.
  • Be clear when the plan will require updating.
