Moving to new families always raises issues not only for the child being placed but also for children in the family they are moving to. Bridget’s Taking a Long Time is an interactive story for children aged 5 to 12 dealing with adoption issues from the point of view of children in an adopting family. This unique resource follows the hopes, fears and frustrations of a child in an adoptive family coming to terms with a new arrival.

As well as a delightful story to help children come to terms with the issues, the programme also includes a range of extra features designed to hold children’s attention and help address the issues:

  • 30 screens (corresponding at pages in a book) take the story from news of a possible new arrival to all the joys and frustrations of a real new person in the family
  • all text features a contrasting highlight when rolled over by the mouse pointer and clear “click to read” speech
  • animations, sound effects, music and interactivity in every screen
  • printable specially commissioned worksheets corresponding to the key issues and feelings
  • an 18 minute video comprising interviews with birth children speaking about their experience of being part of an adopting family
  • specially composed music to capture the mood of the story
