"...valuable reading for any existing panel member and a must for new members."Adoption UK
Adoption panels have an extremely important role to play within agencies and are expected to provide expert advice to adoption agencies, and to contribute to the development of policies and procedures.
Their key role is:
To provide an independent scrutiny of the proposals presented and to determine
- whether all the issues have been appropriately clarified; and
- whether the proposal is sound
This is the only guide of its kind and is designed to help panels to make sound and effective recommendations. It applies to adoption and permanence panels in England and has been comprehensively revised and updated following the Adoption and Children Act 2002 and associated regulations and guidance.
This guide will be of interest and value not only to new and existing panel members in England but also to all those who come into contact with the work of panels, particularly social workers, agency managers, committee members, adoptive parents and foster carers, and a wide range of other professionals.
For panel members themselves the key aims of this guide are:
to inform them about their roles and responsibilities;
to update them on current legislation and issues of good practice;
to help them integrate this work within their own agency context and policies;
to equip them with the knowledge, understanding and confidence needed to make appropriate recommendations in the best interests of children;
to encourage them to play a full role as individual panel members and ton continue to learn more about this task.
This guide is provided in a presentation folder which also contains some useful loose-leaf supplements such as sample person specifications, job descriptions, review formats and useful further reading list. The folder enables agencies to give update sheets and to collate all relevant information.
