BAAF contract extended to run the Adopton Register

Issued: 24 October 2007

After a very successful three years, BAAF has had its contract extended to continue running the Adoption Register for England & Wales for 12 months from 1 December. The Register is run on behalf of the Department for Children, Schools and Families and the Welsh Assembly Government.

The Register has successfully matched 184 children with families so far this year – an increase from 109 in 2004/5 and 157 in 2005/6, bringing the total number of matches to 450 since BAAF began running the service. It uses a specialist database and the skills of a specially trained team to find potentially suitable families for children across England and Wales. All of the children referred to the register have complex needs and backgrounds and no suitable adoptive families are available in their local area.

Andy Stott, Register Manager says “This very important service has helped place many of the children who tend to wait longer for permanent families, such as sibling groups and those from some ethnic backgrounds. We are delighted to have the opportunity to continue to work closely with local authorities and voluntary adoption agencies to ensure the most vulnerable children are found permanent and secure homes.”
