BAAF comment on the Prime Minister's statement on adoption

Issued: 29 January 2007

David Holmes, BAAF Chief Executive, says:

“We have been very clear about our position – the interests of children must come first. However, finding a solution is much more complex and we are pleased the government has carefully considered the intricacies of this sensitive issue.

“BAAF campaigned to widen the pool of prospective adopters to ensure as many children as possible have the opportunity to be placed in loving families. But we have also been concerned to ensure the expertise of Catholic agencies isn’t lost.

“We welcome the Prime Minister’s proposals announced today and believe this package should lead to a sensible solution. We look forward to hearing the detail and offering any assistance that we can.”
