The British Association for Adoption & Fostering (BAAF) will today hold its AGM and celebrate 25 years working on behalf of children as the UK’s leading adoption and fostering charity.
Maria Eagle MP, Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Children, Young People and Families, will address the meeting, to take place on Tuesday November 15th, and comment on BAAF’s work to improve the lives of children separated from their birth families across the UK.
Felicity Collier, BAAF Chief Executive, says: “BAAF is committed to improving the lives of vulnerable children – through training and standard-setting; raising awareness and influencing social policy, and through helping children find loving and permanent homes. This is a landmark opportunity to celebrate past achievements and to look to the future. It is exciting to announce today that the first 100 families have been matched through the Adoption Register for England and Wales.”
She adds: ”I am delighted the Minister has backed our recent National Adoption Week campaign and continues to show such commitment to BAAF’s work.”
Maria Eagle MP says: “The DfES welcomes BAAF's efforts to draw attention to the need for more adoptive parents to meet the needs of children who are awaiting adoption. This is why we are funding BAAF to operate the Adoption Register on our behalf, which works to bring together children in need of adoption with adoptive parents who can meet their needs.
“We also welcome the attention that BAAF has drawn to the need for improved placement stability for looked after children: this is a key target for the Government from the last spending review. Secure and stable attachments, including through the use of adoption, are essential to children's well-being.”
