Top Comedians star in Child Benefit Comedy Night
on 21 November at Prince of Wales Theatre
Issued: 29 October 04
This press release applies to England
The British Association for Adoption and Fostering (BAAF) is teaming up with Soho Theatre to present Child Benefit, a comedy night at the Prince of Wales Theatre on 21 November at 7.30pm, featuring many leading comedians.
Participants already confirmed for this event include Ida Barr, Rhona Cameron, Omid Djalili, Phill Jupitus, Stewart Lee, Nimmy March, Julia Morris, Rob Newman, Pam Ann, Mark Steel, Catherine Tate, New York favourites Kiki and Herb and the London debut of Sweden's hottest comedian Carl-Einar Häckner (further line-up to be confirmed).
The event takes place at the newly renovated 1100 seat Prince of Wales Theatre. Proceeds will support the work of BAAF, the country's leading adoption and fostering charity, and extend the reach of Soho Theatre + Writers' Centre's community and education programme. Celebrity guests of both charities invited include many with a link to adoption, having been adopted as children or being adoptive parents themselves.
BAAF is the leading UK-wide membership organisation promoting high standards of child-centred policies and services for children separated from birth families. It helps hundreds of children each year to find new homes and supports adoptive parents, foster parents and professionals. National Adoption Week (1-7 November) aims to encourage more people to come forward and adopt. Currently there are 4000 children in the UK waiting to be adopted.
Soho Theatre's unique Writers' Centre discovers and develops new writers and audiences. Its community and education programme introduces hundreds of young people to the process of writing for theatre. Alongside this, Soho has become established as one of London's leading venues for comedy with an outstanding programme featuring international and UK talent many of whom are appearing in the gala.
Tickets are on-sale now at £25 and £75 (£75 tickets include access to the exclusive drinks reception with the performers).
