Legal Group Conference
BAAF Scotland held its annual Scottish Legal Group Conference at West Park, Dundee on 11 June 2010: "Whose Welfare? Whose Rights? Reflections and perspectives on how effectively children’s welfare is supported by the 2007 Act and other developments". The day was chaired by Laura Dunlop QC, Scottish Law Commissioner. A range of speakers considered the impact of the implementation of the Adoption and Children (Scotland) Act 2007 and other developments for children and their welfare. Dr Harry Burns, Chief Medical Officer for Scotland spoke about the effects of trauma on children. The impact of the 2007 Act was covered from different perspectives by Sheriff KEC Mackie, local authority legal and social work professionals and the voluntary adoption agencies, with an overview from Lexy Plumtree, BAAF Scotland's Legal Consultant. There were also presentations about the Children's Hearings (Scotland) Bill and the Public Services Reform (Scotland) Act 2010.

DVD for adopters considering adopting a child with special or complex needs
A DVD, ‘Changing Children’s Lives’, which helps adopters decide whether they can offer a home to a child with special needs, is available.
The DVD, made by The North East of Scotland Family Placement Consortium, features three families who have adopted a child or children with special or complex needs. The families, both adults and children, talk openly about their experiences - what adoption means to them and how they have developed and grown.
