The Research Group

The Research Group provides opportunities for networking, discussion and dissemination of relevant research. It promotes the development of evidence-based practice and identifies gaps in research. The group advises BAAF staff and trustees on research issues. It tries to influence the policies, legislation and guidance of central government.

Membership is free and open to:

“BAAF has successfully influenced the adoption and fostering debate through its research, its reasoned arguments and its media expertise.”
Hilton Dawson, MP

Appropriately qualified individual members of BAAF and representatives of agencies that have corporate membership of BAAF. These can include

  • Individual members who are employed as researchers, or who are practitioners interested in and applying relevant research.
  • Student members undertaking research.
  • Researchers employed by corporate members of BAAF.

The Group has an annual meeting and three business meetings a year. Each is followed by a research presentation and discussion of wider issues.

The Group's annual research symposium provides opportunities for the presentation and dissemination of current research findings and for dialogue between practitioners and others in adoption, fostering and child care work. If you have suggestions for topics to be discussed at this year's symposium in November, or would like to present your own work, please contact the Group's Development Officer Julia Feast.

Julia is happy to provide further information. Please email julia.feast@baaf.org.uk, phone 020 7421 2643, or 020 7421 2601.
